Making a strong comment on gender dynamics, Old Fashioned Love, is about a conversation between a bartender and a man sketching by himself. The first reaction for many viewers can be of surprise - to see a woman behind the bar in India, and that is perhaps another comment that the film makes. The conversation between them is intelligently written. The narrative is simple and engaging and concludes with a powerful ending.

A young boy is getting ready for his date and his even younger brother is full of questions about what it is to begin with. While the elder brother hurries out of the house to make it in time, the younger brother is full of curiosity. As YouTube would have it, his mind is soon filled with ideas about how to dress up and behave on a date. The narrative shows him preparing himself for an unsuspecting object of affection, and in the process, it becomes a wonderful take on the innocence of love and the manner in which a boy interprets the emotion. In its crisp and simple way, it also breaks the idea of a date simply being a romantic affair.

Swipe Right is a well-written and elegantly executed short film. It takes the viewer into the life of a young couple that meets over a dating app and hits it off immediately. As the two prepare for their first date, the stage is set for the audience to go deeper into the equation between romance and the virtual world. The story remains unpredictable till the end and gets enhanced further by convincing performances of the two lead actors. Made as part of MensXP's Love on the Rocks series, the film is a wonderful exploration of modern day dating.

This Anurag Kashyap-starrer is a story of one night in the life of a woman who has returned home with a date. Everything seems to be going fine, but something unexpected waits right around the corner. While her date takes a turn for the worse, the viewer is introduced to another aspect of her life she has been trying to move on from for a while. But is there an end, a release in sight for her? The answer is available for the viewer who sticks out till the end. The beautiful cinematography and the effortless progression of the narrative would ensure this turns out to be an easy task. With balance, skill and the right amount of colour, the frames also have plot details for the more attentive viewer. Further, the film earns extra points for unexpected doses of humour; for instance, in the manner in which an unwitting character finds himself tied up (quite literally) in the embroglio of two lovers. The whole film is also supported by a background score several would find familiar. It performs well on all fronts, but the same cannot be said for the story and writing. Additionally, the performances are not extraordinary, much like the rest of the film. However, when all of it is put together, one might be convinced to overlook the weaknesses of Fool for Love.

The Perfect Match is a short film about the extent of the deep infestation of technology in our lives. The concept of the film has immense potential, yet it fails to be remarkable. It could be due to a low production quality in part. However that aspect can be accounted for by the fact that The Perfect Match was an entry in the 50 Hour Challenge of the India Film Project. Given the short duration for the execution, the film definitely becomes worth a watch.

At the heart of this innocent love story is Arjun, and primarily his object of affection, also the most desired girl in their social circle, Tanya. As Arjun attempts to try his luck with her, the narrative preoccupies itself more with his interactions with his best friend Lucky, than it does with Tanya. Through these deliberate choices of writing and screenplay, the viewer is introduced to another layer within the story, Lucky’s unspoken love for Arjun. 

While the film deals with unrequited love, it also presents a glimpse into the intimacy that is nestled within a meaningful friendship. The hits and misses continue as Arjun hatches the perfect scheme to make Tanya fall in love with him, alongside a reticent Lucky who watches from the sidelines. Notwithstanding a little rawness in terms of production, the film exhibits a devoted troupe of performers as well as the artists behind the camera to portray the various components for the audience. The potential of the team paves the path for more such endeavors in the future.
