Made as part of the Start A Little Good series by Hindustan Lever, the ad film by Little Lamb Films goes to show how far a simple act can go in saving the environment. Drawing attention to the very urgent issue of water shortage, the film shows the bleakness of the situation in rural India. While it's often easy to slip into a state of indifference, often induced by the comfort of our privileges, at the cost of sounding preachy, it's important to remind ourselves that life is much harder for a large part of the Indian population. What we take for granted is a very rare and sought after necessity for many, and we can do our bit to change this with only a little awareness of environmental concerns.

Two young roommates exchange banter in their kitchen as they prepare lunch. The one washing the utensils under a running tap requests his friend to set him up on a date with a common friend. As the discussion about regular life continues, so do the chores of cooking and washing. Tit-bits of friendly taunts get thrown around and the conversation moves forward until one of the taps starts leaking blood. With this strange, disconcerting development, enters a relevant message that further comes to define the core intentions of the film. As a horrified man stands before a crimson tap, questioning the source of the blood, a very important answer awaits him as well as the viewer at the film's conclusion.

The short narrative offers a smooth weaving together of images to present a sweet story about water and its life-giving abilities. As it moves from one container to another, suffusing each of them with life as long as it gets to stay within them, the lovely visuals continue to flow in swift successions. Manor Colony, already struggling with water shortages, is headed towards a future of severe water scarcity as a result of a mill construction nearby. The film invokes the plight of a concerned resident in the face of indifferent and greedy officials handling the project who will leave no stone unturned in filling their pockets, even at the cost of others' survival. However, when the protagonist finds himself meeting a dead end every which way, he decides to take matters in his own hands. As he puts his plan to execution, what will be the eventual conclusion - which side of law will win this battle?

Adopting a simple approach, the short film shares the story of the importance of a bowl of water, despite its seemingly small quantity. Conveyed to the viewer by way of comprehensive visuals, it shows different birds and animals quenching their thirst by drinking from an earthen bowl. There is further a reminder for the viewer to not waste even the smallest amount of water. An advice crucial to maintaining the health and safety of the environment, it further serves to highlight the importance of every single drop for the nature and its various components.

Human activities are a tough onslaught against the environment that is carried out on a daily basis. And instead of identifying the folly of their actions, they turn around to blame it on external factors instead, underlines the short film. It opens with visuals of people callously throwing away food and water, while the inanimate objects are allowed a voice in the story to express their dismay. Through a conversation that is invoked between a rag-picker and these objects, the narrative further pushes its message home, reminding the viewer of their responsibility to take care of their surroundings. Along with this, there is also an emphasis on how we are exploiting them, serving as a reiteration to cease those activities in order to take better care of everything nature and the planet has bestowed upon us.

The film is an adaptation of a short story by Premchand titled Thakur ka Kua. The narrative attempts to draw attention to the deeply entrenched roots of caste system and all the hardships it entails for the oppressed. What happens when the upper caste and upper class Thakur decides to restrict the villagers' access to his water well? The scarcity is in direct contrast with the wastage of water in acts like washing feet at the Thakur's house. Amidst all of this is an ill villager who is languishing due to thirst, among other bodily discomfort. As his young daughter attempts to secure him water, what will be their fate?

The film draws attention to an important concern - scarcity of water in India. Through the story of a young girl and her nightmares, the narrative tries to drive its point home. In a world where shortage of water has reached alarming levels, it is indeed a disturbing reality we struggle with on a daily basis. The narrative simply serves as a reminder of the same, invoking the idea of an existence where water is provided to each household in a rationed manner. Through its protagonist, the story aims to conjure the image of extreme thirst presented adjacent to the images of wastage of water, endeavouring to be a harsh prompt accentuating human indifference towards water scarcity.

The short film portends a frightening reality of a future where water would be scarce enough to drive people to a life of violence and crime. It endeavours to build its narrative in an engaging manner. The story is of two men who are breaking into a house. Subsequent visuals reveal that they have already killed a man in what seems like part of a robbery. However, soon they stumble across something far more precious that further puts their loyalties under question. In a world where basic necessities like water become extremely sparse commodities, what will be the fate of humanity, as well as mankind as a species?
