Despite the disturbing thought the film invokes in its title, taking one’s life by suicide, the narrative is marked by uplifting humor and hope. The entirety of the plot is a movement towards the realization of the same. 
A man is trying to end his life, but a little girl keeps coming in his path. She takes him down the road of some unexpected misadventures that amuse the viewer, even if at the cost of the protagonist’s misery. Their exchanges continue, following the format and approach of a silent film, employing the visual flow steadily, coupled with a fitting background score. 
At the heart of the film is an important message that is presented to the viewer with earnestness and lucidity, while also displaying a screenplay defined by ease, along with a complementary edit.

Sui-side Story | Short Film Nominee

Completely without any dialogue, the short film takes us into a single afternoon when a character clicks Polaroids on his camera. However, as he leaves the street to enter a seemingly empty house, little does he realize how far he is stepping away from safety. The entire story, despite the underlying sinister, supernatural elements, unfolds in broad daylight, attempting to invoke horror and thrill without taking refuge in the ease of darkness. 

As for the protagonist, who has now reached a point of no return, the most terrible and shocking development is about to materialize, one that would alter his reality forever.

The narrative follows a young rag-picker as he goes about his day. Following the format of a silent film and hence marked by a complete absence of dialogues, the story comes to be marked by a point of view which remains confined to being a quiet, non-intrusive observer to the protagonist's activities as he moves from one location to another. Events within the story seem to be reaching a crescendo when he finds some money floating in a tub. However, how will this incident tie up with the title of the film - one that suggests a state of satisfaction? The protagonist is located in an existence away from material accumulation, and yet he is allowed to stumble across money. The film offers a fitting conclusion which, in turn, enables closure for the viewer as well as an answer to this question.

The film is presented as a tribute to Charlie Chaplin. In the characteristic style of the artist, 'Broken Mirror' too models itself after the genre of silent films to share its story with you. A woman is on her way to work when she has a run-in with a strange man. Not only is he a character that exists on the margins of society, but he also has a striking resemblance to her former partner, a man she lost in the most tragic accident. 

Thus begins her attempts to once again find hope and affection while trying to help this man turn around his life. However, unlike the humor that we have come to associate with Charlie Chaplin, the subject matter of the film is a far darker story. It is in this realization that the core ideas of the film, as well as its title, get pronounced.

Broken Mirror | Short Film Nominee

A woman is dressed to the nines, awaiting a companion before a carefully-set table. The scene is complete and ready to be enjoyed...when it is struck by tragedy. Once the cake has been baked following a painstaking endeavor, and everything else has been prepared, the former is met with a terrible fate of being crushed against the floor. 

Despite the sudden change in the tone of what would have potentially been a romantic night, a notable message about love and relationships rests in the story. Using a set of scales as a metaphor for balance in an equation between two people, and the many nuances of unspoken ease that can exist in such an equation, 'One's Tango' aims to share its well-meaning intentions with the viewer.

The short film attempts a hilarious take on the intersection of three parallel realities. As two boys from alternate dimensions come to rob their own self existing in a third one, an unpleasant surprise awaits them. Endeavouring to be an homage to the silent comedies of yesteryears, the film weaves a lighthearted narrative to communicate it all.

Analog | Lockdown Film Challenge

Keeping itself completely devoid of dialogue, the narrative wants to discuss the several aspects of creativity. Presenting to us a writer as the protagonist, the plot introduces us to the many eccentricities and the activities that occupy his time. 

The underlying idea here remains that a writer's consciousness is plagued, and consumed by a whole plethora of emotions. Some foes, others companions, they all continue to inhabit his mind, never truly leaving him alone for even a single moment, as he goes about the daily business of writing, underlines ‘Wannabe Writer'.

Wannabe Writer | Short Film Nominee

Borrowing from the silent films of the past, the short film shares its story which is about aliens, friends casually spending time on a rooftop and the absolute importance of wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic. Trying to stay true to its genre, the story is completely devoid of any dialogues and uses a monochromatic palette to share its message in a comedic manner.

Rules and the UFO | Lockdown Film Challenge

Locating itself in the mid-twentieth century, the short film takes us into the life of a theatre actor who finds it increasingly difficult to find work. With the rise of cinema, and a consequent fall in the popularity of theatre, he is desperate to earn any money that will come his way. As a result, when an unexpected project lands at his doorstep, it seems like a harbinger of good news, until the actor makes his way to the film set. Adapting its narrative from Satyajit Ray's short story Patol Babu, Film Star, along with the format of a silent film, complete with a playful background score and title cards, the film presents its story to you in a lighthearted manner.
