A viewer should go to Gadhedo unprepared and unsuspecting and allow themselves to be impressed and entertained by a wonderful short film. The story is of a small village where the local teacher lounges and relaxes at the cost of his pupils' education. As Monday becomes 'Monde' and week becomes 'weak', it is not hard to determine the direction his students are headed in. Add to all this his eccentric, witless landlord, and the drama of the film unfolds in the most unpredictable and engaging manner. The film is unique and refreshing in the style it adopts to tell its story, a folk tale, as it states at the start. It has several moments of brilliance as the viewer tries to pin it down to a genre - comedy, drama, thriller? What happens when a simpleton decides to pay a huge sum to his devious tenant to turn his donkey into a human? The consequences are hilarious, surprising and saddening - all at the same time, allowing Gadhedo to be a skilled and sophisticated piece of art.

Two strangers meet in a shared cab at 3 am in Bombay - one a writer with an advertising firm, the other an investment banker. One of them has had a very long day at work, the other has an anecdote to share about a beef curry he had two days ago. It's easy to see how the two are in completely different mental spaces, yet there's a common thread, one that often connects strangers in a big city. It could be the mad rush of it that forces them to find solace in brief encounters or moments, or it could be a divine, otherworldly connection. Detour, with its narrative most effortlessly handled by director and writer Sumi Mathai, and the convincing chemistry of Sayani Gupta and Vikrant Massey, explores these dynamics and leaves it up to the viewer to decide which is what.

The strongest quality of the short film is definitely the story. However, what Best Girlfriend lacks in terms of a smooth edit and sophisticated camera angles, it makes up with promising performances by the two main leads, Kritika Kamra and Vikrant Massey. It also offers an interesting, thought-provoking take on modern day, urban romances by interacting with notions of morality, ethics and fidelity in a relationship.

The video marks ten years of a campaign that was started by actor and director Nandita Das under the Women of Worth NGO in 2009. Called Dark is Beautiful, the campaign attempts to fight discrimination against a dark complexion in India, a country which is made up of 1.3 billion people. The visuals include short sketches and a huge cast of different actors questioning the supremacy of fair skin in India, especially when it comes to defining beauty standards and ascribing value to a person. The cast, in an all-black attire, sings along to a song that questions the erasure of this particular kind of diversity in a country as massive as India.
