Samskara translates to 'impressions' - something around which the whole narrative of the film would come to pivot. The visuals make the most skilled use of hand-hold shots and dimly lit frames to build up the tension and suspense of the characters. The viewer is able to participate in it, owing to the manner in which they are weaved. The narrative also makes an expert use of parallel narratives. The reason it works visually and manages to drive its point home most convincingly is because of the seamless editing. The film is an exploration of the extent of the effect of abuse and how entrapping childhood trauma can be. The exploration also justifies the title - the cyclical nature of life, constituted by an external repeat of internal impressions.

Starring Namit Das, Naamkaran opens with the protagonist in a hurry, but running extremely late as his cab driver cancels on him after a long wait. As he struggles to get to his destination, his enthusiastic family turns up, more than eager to drive him to the place. The film is an attempt by director Sonam Nair to portray the love of a family that is loving to the point of being overwhelming. However it handles a situation common for many without a tinge of bitterness. While it may all be loud and colourful, yet at no point are the colours and the sound bothersome. Naamkaran is an endearing story of a young man at the brink of starting something new along with unwavering support of those who love him deeply.

Brevity truly is the soul of wit, as this short film will go ahead to prove. Even in a few moments, The Last Day by Adhiraj Bose, weaves together the most heartwarming narrative of a friendship between two people who have lived together for eight years. However, life waits for none, and now it is indeed time for them to move on. This film handles the awkward, yet emotional parting between two friends in a moving manner. The mastery of the film lies in the fact that the situations it attempts to portray is not entirely unique, yet, instead of spiralling into corniness or mawkishness (or both), it sticks to a skilled and balanced treatment of it.
