While the elder brother hurries out of the house to make it in time, the younger brother is full of curiosity. As YouTube would have it, his mind is soon filled with ideas about how to dress up and behave on a date. The narrative shows him preparing himself for an unsuspecting object of affection, and in the process, it becomes a wonderful take on the innocence of love and the manner in which a boy interprets the emotion. In its crisp and simple way, it also breaks the idea of a date simply being a romantic affair.

The short film by Naik Foundation presents to the viewer a lovely portrayal of a brother-sister relationship. As the former wakes up to go to school, the latter ensures that he is ready in time for it every morning. However, amidst all of this, the attention is drawn to the fact that she is not given same opportunities as her brother regarding education. By using the innocence of the little boy, the film not only draws attention to it, but also makes the viewer question it. There is further an exploration of how even well-meaning Indian households might not give education of the girl child the attention it deserves and urgently needs.

No, the short film didn't forget Nakul and Sahdev - struggling fashion designers who want to keep their homosexuality hidden from their mother, because after all, they ARE mama's boys. Mama's Boys is marked by the brand of humour that exploits hypersexualisation to invoke laughter. Also, the film would have benefited greatly by a more well-rounded and less abrupt ending.

The narrative attempts to be a commentary on religion. Set in the near future of 2022, the film locates itself in central India where existence is divided by the religious identities of three communities - Hindu, Muslim and Christian. And yet, from among these, arises a fourth strain of thought whose motive is to end all of these three at all costs. As blood is shed and pawns are sacrificed for the smooth functioning of the larger machine of power, what would be the fate of an average boy who is unable to negotiate his position in society vis-a-vis religion and his idea of God?
