‘Shinakht’ holds a steady mirror to communal violence and the bigotry that leads to it. The film does not shy away from raising pertinent questions where a man’s very right to existence and respect is reduced to his surname, and how identifying it not only echoes the film's title but also becomes the primary force that thrusts the narrative forth. 

 A man arrives to deliver food. However, the man of the house is completely preoccupied with knowing his full name, to ascertain whether his food has been delivered by someone belonging to his own community. The extent to which he goes for this piece of information pronounces the core message of the film, one about mindless violence in the name of an imagined identity. 

The protagonist's performance is convincing in the repulsion it generates within the viewer with his aggression and absolute erasure of marginalized identities. Though not entirely devoid of a little rawness in terms of some aspects of production, the story exhibits deep potential. The narrative-building and storytelling should definitely be developed further in future projects.

The film progresses in an interesting manner, ensuring that the viewer sits up and pays attention by the time the crux is reached. It opens in an open field with four characters. As the protagonist is singled out, he soon finds himself in a life-threatening situation of his own making. The film manages to keep the viewer engaged, catching them by surprise at the next developments regarding his mental health, past relationship and suicidal tendencies. It further offers a significant portrayal of guilt and the manner in which it could affect someone's life. The narrative, which is divided in the form of chapters corresponding to human emotions of fear, guilt and anger, unfolds to reveal a place where notions of time and space do not exist, a realm that lies in between life and death, one where you finally decide the manner in which you will leave your mortal life behind. The film suggests maturity in the manner in which it deals with its story, trying hard to maintain the gravity. The tying of ends is also achieved notably at the end, leaving the viewer with a sense of closure.

Nexus | Short Film Nominee

The short film is the exploration of the futility of an existence that is simply tied to a desk job of regulated hours. It draws attention to the fact that a dull job can drain anyone of their life force, snuff out their desires and isolate them from their friends and family. The film unfolds as a conversation between two men where one asks pointed questions from the other about life, happiness and existence. Unable to find the answers, he finds himself at a pivotal turning point which will come to decide the course of the rest of his life. However, after being shown the mirror about the reality of his life, what will be the fate of our protagonist?
