The story of Falana Dhimkana is of three different pairs of people and their individual struggles. The narrative is an exploration of the less significant moments of life, those which fall between the cracks of milestones and landmark achievements. The style of the film adopts the most natural flow and offers a beautiful portrayal of several things - from union and partings to hardships and most universal of them all, pain. The film comes across as a wise decision by the young filmmaker Prannoy Mehta to talk about concerns no grander than heartbreak, financial trouble and raw, honest intimacy between two people. All of this is gracefully weaved together with the stories of its characters, rendered convincingly by the actors. Falana Dhimkana is subtle, soft, and a reminder that irrespective of where we may be in life, pain finds us all in the end, but so does hope, happiness and joy.

During the coronavirus lockdown, we have all had at least that one friend who somehow found it possible to turn themselves into productivity machines. Things would have been perfectly alright up until this point if only they had not chosen to share their enthusiasm with the rest of the world as well by means of a social media onslaught. Then came the culinary experts who swore to flood our lives with every little attempt of chopping an onion. And yet, one could have contended themselves in the name of the various emotional pressures that our 'new normal', as the internet loved to call it, put so many of us under, leaving everyone with whatever coping mechanisms they could grasp at. However, just when you thought it's all over, we had our former lovers' Instagram feed to endlessly scroll through. The short film is a weaving together of all of these characters and the resultant emotions and situations (and more) in a lighthearted, humorous manner. While it makes you laugh, it further goes the extra step of using fast-paced, smooth visuals to portray it all. Stylistically, the film earns extra points for its energetic and skilled camerawork and edit, at the same time engaging with concerns of mental health and the manner in which it has come to be tied with our quarantined and confined reality all along.

The narrative attempts to be a commentary on religion. Set in the near future of 2022, the film locates itself in central India where existence is divided by the religious identities of three communities - Hindu, Muslim and Christian. And yet, from among these, arises a fourth strain of thought whose motive is to end all of these three at all costs. As blood is shed and pawns are sacrificed for the smooth functioning of the larger machine of power, what would be the fate of an average boy who is unable to negotiate his position in society vis-a-vis religion and his idea of God?
