Chiraiya

The short narrative is an endeavor in talking about a very relevant concern in contemporary times - the location of women and girls within the confines of domesticity. It wants to show the struggles of a young girl who dreams of dancing, following her passion, but instead is left to execute dull, mundane household chores.

The metaphor the story draws from is that of a caged bird who also happens to be our protagonist's sole companion in a life of denied desires and wishes. Chiraiya is a well-intentioned attempt which could have perhaps gained from a more nuanced portrayal of a hijabi girl, while steering clear of the resultant oversimplification and its usage as a tool to pronounce women's marginalization.
