The series is the first of its kinds in several ways - firstly, it's the first Indian series to be in black and white. Secondly, though documentaries and products in general have attempted to talk about Kota and its culture of coaching centres in the past, this is the first to bring the conversation into the mainstream. And thirdly, it engages with several nuanced aspects of competition and student life in the country which cannot simply be written off as absolute truths. Kota Factory, thus, weaves together an involving narrative of friendship, dreams, hurt and the struggles of being an IIT-aspirant.

The short film captures a moment often common to the lives of urban youth - the guest list preparation for a party. The entirety of the plot unfolds within the confines of a video call, while simultaneously giving us a glimpse into a recent experience of a similar gathering one of the two participants had attended. As the viewer is taken deeper into the evening, the film comes across as entertaining and amusing. It offers you a moment, but does not build on it. It would be a welcome prospect to see the young team take their endeavor further in the form of a longer project that involves us more in the lives of the characters and their social dynamics.

'Cutting Corners' is a solemn, steady story of innocence, youth and love. It is also a story of despair, jealousy, and perhaps, even hope. All of this is portrayed for the viewer by way of a love triangle. 
While a boy endeavors to woo his beloved, Jia, Jai watches quietly from the sidelines as the girl that he loves is pursued by his close friend. Unable to act or express his truth, there is little else that he can do. However, right when the viewer might think his heartache has been neatly tied away, another development awaits them. The storytelling is steady and honest in its attempts, albeit not without a little instability in its visuals, and it’s with this perspective that the project should be approached and appreciated.

The concise narrative of ‘Mulaqat’ portrays a single exchange between two characters. A boy has run into a former school-mate of his. However, despite his best efforts, she is unable to recall him. Soon, an undercurrent of innocent attraction is established between the two as they continue with a stroll on the beach. The writing, storytelling and performances, all show dedication, and the desire to bring their intentions to life with sincerity. Despite a few rough edges in terms of production, the end result exhibits potential and should definitely serve as a stepping stone for more creative pursuits that are yet to come.

Mulaqat | Short Film Nominee

Educational in nature, the film carries an important message about the environment and the role of the youth in the betterment of society. It uses different sets of characters along with parallel storylines, that eventually come to overlap, to share its message with the viewer. The film is about reminding you the importance of young people, with their energy and enthusiasm, in improving the state of affairs when it comes to the life and times around us. It also talks of people's indifference and temporary interest in helping the environment, but soon forgetting about it and moving on. Hence, the narrative wants to emphasise the significance of doing your bit sincerely in being the change we want to see in the world.

Arimugam | Short Film Nominee

The film seeks to raise awareness on depression, that so many young people suffer from. It approaches
the question from the perspective of a young man who is completely bogged down by the trails of life
and sees no way out. For him, the agony of depression is a question of freedom and entrapment. He
contemplates taking his life, but then takes a step back.
