The chronology and the narrative Hatred adopts to drive this message home is smart and exhibits dedication to storytelling. Overall, the film is an engrossing product, a comment on physical violence, bullying and abuse, which also manages to translate its intentions coherently on screen for the viewer to witness and participate in.

While several films on mental health run the danger of offering little to nothing new or unique on the topic, What It Feels Like stands out owing to the structuring of the narrative, and the honesty and dedication to its subject matter. The realisation of the premise shows deep potential on the part of the team, thereby allowing the film to be an adequate portrayal of a mental condition innumerable people in general, and Indian students in particular, grapple with on a regular basis.

When the everyday, lived reality of a regular village in Rajasthan becomes too overwhelming, young Kaaliyaa takes refuge in his reveries. After having heard the stories of a caped superhero from a fellow-villager, who colours his tales with all kinds of hues and shades of city-life, our protagonist finds himself in the heart of a daydream about his own cape and mask. The film is endearing and honest in its attempts to shares its story with the audience, to whom it provides an equally likeable character, along with noteworthy visuals. While our protagonist might struggle to register dull facts about an era gone by, will he truly find a safe refuge in the stories of Kaaliyaa Man?

The film attempts a detailed engagement with social anxiety and an individual's personal relationship with it. It uses four people which include a queer artist, a student, a salon owner and an actor, to drive its point home. The narrative brings to life four very personal, intimate and defining experiences to discuss this particular form of anxiety. Where it goes a step further is to portray how each of these people found a way to turn it around into something constructive, to take their worries and stress and other mental afflictions and channel them into something that helped them become a better version of themselves. Because of its candour, the film manages to communicate successfully what it had set out to. However, it would have gained more with a little polishing of the technical aspects in the form of pacing, edit and a smoother conclusion.

A man is sitting by himself, obsessively scribbling something. As voices begin to echo in his head, we are allowed a glimpse into what might truly be going on. The narrative introduces us to an incident where a professor dismisses his pupil in a very harsh manner. It is this incident which has now led to our protagonist's frenzied state while he attempts to desperately fix his folly, completely oblivious to those around him. The bad grade has disturbed him deeply, as has his teacher's censure. All of these developments will eventually culminate into a truly dark reality, one revealed to the viewer only at the film's conclusion.

A young girl aspires to be an actor and puts all her heart and soul into it. However, her efforts do not lead to desirable results. After several rejections from potential employers, her father orders her to focus on academics, and give up on this dream. Unfortunately for her, even the examination result does not turn out to be what she had worked for. Completely isolated and alone, along with being crushed by the burden of denied dreams, she takes an irreversible step. It is in this moment that a very crucial text message arrives, but would it already be too late by then?
