The story of 'That Book' is of an aspiring writer who is always immersed in his stories, much to the chagrin of others. During a writing episode one night, he stumbles across a strange book. The strangeness is due to the underlined words he finds in it. Stringing the words together presents to him a disturbing possibility, and thus begins his pursuit to figure out who may have underlined those words. The rest of the plot becomes an endeavor in finally getting to the bottom of the truth about the said person, along with the help of two of his other friends. When the conclusion arrives, however, would the protagonist have been able to answer the question he had set out with on this quest?

It is the age and time of the pandemic when a writer finds himself confined indoors, and without inspiration to write, to the utter dismay of his producer. Using his pen as a metaphor, the film thus becomes a lighthearted story about the creative battles of a writer. As he struggles to find inspiration, all the while invoking a reality of household chores, a familiar ordeal for all of us by now, little respite is to be found for him. However, as life would have it, when he finds inspiration one day, the universe ensures that a very practical obstacle stands in his way - the refusal of his pen to work. When he eventually does overcome this obstacle as well, after having already fought with the absence of creativity, what new developments lie in his path?

Writer's Pen | Short Film Nominee

The film weaves an engaging narrative about two men who are putting their heads together to conceive a horror story. As they go about developing it, interesting insights are provided into the idea of time, the relationship of the supernatural with our existence and how our past in itself is a spiritual entity of its own. The conversation between the two friends is involving and shows investment of thought, enriching and enhancing the story further. However, the film loses crucial marks in the department of lighting, despite the deliberate shadows to maintain the eeriness.
