The film is a beautiful and insightful conversation that a woman has with her baby. The story opens on a day when Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are in full swing with fireworks and merrymaking in tow. The tone of the narrative leaves the viewer significantly unprepared for what is to come. Solely an interaction of the mother and her baby as she comforts the infant disturbed by the noise of crackers and the celebration downstairs, Vikat continues to increase the intimacy in its approach to the events unfolding on screen. What had begun as a regular celebration of a festival, is about to culminate into a violent act that makes the viewer truly sit up and pay heed. Now that the film has managed to capture your attention, while also demonstrating expert camerawork in the process, it will finally share its true intentions - one about the environment and how it has been degraded and exploited by us in the name of celebration, making its message all the more powerful and hard-hitting.

Employing skilful visuals, both stunning and horrifying in equal measure, the short film invokes a concern extremely relevant in contemporary times. It draws the viewer's attention to the callous indifference with which humans have abused the River Yamuna, resulting in polluting it to alarming levels. The approach the narrative adopts to present this concern forth is comprised of stills and photographs, mapped against a poetic narration, revealing the state of the river. There is a reiteration of not allowing yourself to get blinded by the ideals of development and progress and check our activities at an individual level before its too late for our environmental resources. The film, thus, becomes a sincere plea for humans to protect the planet before we destroy our very source of life and existence.

Yamuna: An Appeal | Short Film Nominee

The film serves as a disturbing reminder of the human onslaught on the environment, and the soaring levels of pollution that are slowly killing the planet. It is set in a dystopic society, not more than fifty years ahead of the present, where oxygen and water have become commodities rare enough to trigger wars. The film has a noble intention, very relevant in contemporary times as well. However, it's aimed at familiarising the masses with issues of climate change, not meant to be seen as a deep engagement with questions of survival. An unsuspecting viewer might find themselves disappointed with the narrative, VFX and the general execution of the story.

Carbon | Short Film Nominee

The ad film carries with it a significantly important message that becomes more and more relevant in contemporary times where the planet wages a tough battle against environmental destruction. The narrative is short and crisp and succeeds in communicating its message in a lucid, comprehensive manner. The comment it offers is about how devotion to religion and festivities is not determined by materialism of any kind, and all that it requires is faith. Secondly, there is further a reminder for the viewer, with especial focus on Ganesh Chaturthi, to not let their devotion lead them to perhaps unknowingly indulge in a practice which pollutes their surroundings. The film is quiet and sincere in sharing its message, and reminds the audience to simply be more mindful of their observation and practices.

The documentary film is a zealous endeavour to introduce the viewer to Kerala's fishermen community. It picks several case studies to bring in varied voices to talk about their tribulations, plans and expectations from future generations, relationship with education - their own as well as that of their children, and their ideas of religious harmony. Visually, however, the film stands to gain from closer attention to colour correction. The final product shows potential, presenting the viewer with the cause of its arguments, even though a more defined effect for the same would have allowed the film an added coherence. Overall, Vellam remains a well-intentioned product, exhibiting vision and should be appreciated thus.

The short film is a brave attempt with a noble intention. Borrowing the stylistic characteristics of a silent film, 'Man on a Bicycle' attempts to draw the viewer's attention to a pressing concern - the deteriorating health of the environment. It juxtaposes the image of soaring pollution levels against that of an indifferent people, too tied up in their day-to-day business to be concerned. The narrative tries to achieve this by showing everything that a man encounters on his daily route. As images of smoke, vehicular pollution and disease populate the screen, the film raises the question - is an end to human apathy possible?

Man On A Bicycle | Short Film Nominee

The music video adopts an experimental approach in its visuals to highlight the importance of protecting and saving the environment from any further damage than has been already done to it as a result of mankind's endless greed. Plastic is choking the planet, our oceans and water bodies are overflowing with it, while marine life continues to suffer beneath the burden of it all. What the video does is use a popular Bollywood song to remind the viewer of the extent of the harm done to the environment. With its cast of only two dancers in a minimalist frame, the narrative makes a dedicated effort to remind its audience to wake up and pay heed to the planet's plea for help before its too late.

Things. Love. Pollution | Short Film Nominee

Human activities are a tough onslaught against the environment that is carried out on a daily basis. And instead of identifying the folly of their actions, they turn around to blame it on external factors instead, underlines the short film. It opens with visuals of people callously throwing away food and water, while the inanimate objects are allowed a voice in the story to express their dismay. Through a conversation that is invoked between a rag-picker and these objects, the narrative further pushes its message home, reminding the viewer of their responsibility to take care of their surroundings. Along with this, there is also an emphasis on how we are exploiting them, serving as a reiteration to cease those activities in order to take better care of everything nature and the planet has bestowed upon us.
