The short film is a beautiful exploration of separation, longing and eventual union. The narrative uses muted colours and soft visuals that set the pace as well as the tone of the story. It follows a back and forth trajectory to convey its message which further enhances the plot, and leaves the viewer with farm fuzzies at the end of it all. The camerawork is primarily handheld. This in turn serves to keep the mood casual, yet intimate. As it gives a glimpse into the life of a couple which happens to be in different cities and far apart from each other, the film will strike a chord for all those who have known yearning and cherished the company of a loved one. Attempting to seek and secure their presence through different means, virtually in the instance of the film, is an experience shared by several people who have been in love. It would be for these viewers that Khayaal Tumhaara will ring the loudest and truest, and therefore, in turn, be relatable.

When we make friends in college, we think of them as friends for life. The experience of having shared
our joys, our failures, our dreams, our limits at that starry-eyed age, solidifies the bond. There is
something special about the people we meet at a juncture in our lives when we are independently seeing the world,
who become family. This film describes one such relationship. College best friends reconnect after years. So
many things have changed – they have jobs, one got married, one has a child. But is it possible to start
the relationship from the point where you left, even when you’ve missed the major events that
have happened in your friend’s life while you were busy with yours? Locating itself in a locked down world, this is what the film explores. 
The most important thing in a film about friendship is the comfort level between actors playing friends
to bring out their chemistry, and despite not being in the same room together, the actors in BFF are able to
achieve this.

Snehapoorvam Pravasi, translated in English as “With love, The Expat,’’ is essentially, a love letter, from
an expatriate husband to his wife, but since phone calls have taken the place of letters, the film is then a
visual love note. We do not know for how long the man has been away from his home, but we get a
sense that he doesn’t get to see his children very often. He has been compelled by his financial
circumstances to work away from his family, but he tries his best to make their life easier by sending
them money and keeping in touch with his wife. In the entire emotional phone call, he describes to her
the allocation and expenditure of all the funds. Despite his small salary, the family makes space for
charity.

Barnali and Somnath have been married for some time now, but for the last two years, Somnath has been
away. It is Barnali’s birthday and he has missed being with her thrice in a row. To make up for his
absence he sends her a gift. It is a teddy bear. The last one that Barnali received was also by him. If her
obsession with the teddy bears doesn’t seem odd already, there’s more in store for the viewer.
