Jagdish is a devoutly religious man who dreams of one day making it big in the world. He works at his job as a guard and aspires to ride the bullet train, a metaphor for the course he hopes his life will take. At the same time, another strange reality is unfolding. His dreams have begun to serve as premonitions, alerting him of the occurrences in the lives of those around him. 

The film presents ideas of predestination, and fate, and raises the question if one is truly capable of changing the future, even after knowing what it holds. Despite a few rough edges sticking their head out in terms of narratorial progression, the film explores all of these ideas with sincerity and committment.

The Covid-19 outbreak drew a very demarcated line between the fortunate and the unfortunate. If on the one hand hundreds and thousands of people were left gasping for oxygen, lost their loved ones or livehood, suffered huge emotional and financial obstacles, on the other, there were those who could work from the comfort of their homes, be with their near and dear ones, and still continue living, albeit with more manageable troubles. Additionally, there was also a third group of the frontline workers who risked their lives every day to keep society running on its feet. The narrative of the short film draws the viewer's attention to all of these aspects, reminding them of the importance of each individual's role and participation during a time as taxing as the pandemic.

‘Tooti Chappal’ takes us into a corner of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and into the life of an auto driver called Magan. As the plot progresses, we see a strange, unusual relationship that the protagonist shares with a pair of broken slippers. 

Anyone questioning it or objecting to the possession, makes Magan irate and aggressive. Soon, an inextricable link between the slippers and Magan’s fate is also revealed. However, with the sense of foreboding that has come to define this equation, can anything good or constructive come out of it? 

The film raises this question, strives passionately to communicate it to the viewer, and in the process, offers a story that is disconcerting and marked by an irrational relationship between a man and his beloved inanimate object.
