Imagine you are sitting in a classroom, writing an exam, but you don't know any of the answers? Bringing a nightmare for many to life is Little Hands, an endearing short film by Rohan Raveendran Nair. The intelligent camerawork of the film is undoubtedly its biggest strength. Without showing any faces, Little Hands, moves from one pair of hands to another to share a story of intimidating questions, the struggle to find their answers, the risks taken to achieve them and finally the sacrifice to help someone in need. The short film is skilful and innocent in equal measures and leaves the viewer with definite answers about friendship and kindness.

With the ongoing exam result fever, this short video by Blush, is a pleasant reminder for students to not let their marks become an overwhelming force in their life. Ahead of the release of their film Student of the Year 2, Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday have come together for this video. When the three characters revisit an old report card, they are met with the realisation that their marks do not define them, passing on the same message to students and their parents. Set against the narration of a nicely-written poem, the video is simple, but heartwarming.

Saakhar is a heartwarming portrayal of a mother-son relationship. With its interesting use of camera and light, the film attempts to take the viewer into the life of Atharva, a school-boy preparing for an exam the following day. His mother is a single mother who juggles her professional, domestic and maternal duties. Her convincing character owes much to the subtleties added to her delineation a less attentive filmmaker might have missed. Saakhar, or sugar in Marathi, comes to then perhaps stand for a certain sweetness (or the lack of it) associated with a mother's relationship with her son during different aspects of the same situation.

A student is burning the midnight oil to prepare for his engineering exams. The electricity is out. His
room his pitch dark, and he is studying under the flame of a single candle. It’s a quintessential horror
setting. Strange occurrences begin to envelop him. He suspects being watched by an invisible presence,
but he shrugs it off and continues to study. The next morning, he visits his university and the invisible
stalking presence follows him. He gets into a car, drives to a bridge and commits an act to put his fears
to rest, once and for all. But will they truly stop chasing him?

Trepidation | Short Film Nominee

When a young boy touches the debris of a meteor that have made their way to earth, his timeline gets reversed. He suddenly finds himself giving an exam that he had already failed to pass in the original timeline. A second time around, he manages to ace it. However, in return, he has to pay a hefty price. Would he be willing to part with a precious thing in return of a distinction in his exam? Or will he manage to find out a middle ground for both his desire and the price that needs to be paid in return? The story is the highlight of the short film as it endeavours an engagement with the concept of time and the relationship between the past and the future.

Anshu is blackmailed by Raghu, a rogue college fellow, to steal question papers from their professor he takes personal tuitions from. His roommate Vikas gets hold of the stolen papers and confronts Anshu about it. They get into a heated argument which triggers something dreadful inside Anshu. What happens next is something the viewer didn’t see coming. The film ends at this point of shock and horror that one struggles to grapple with. Does it convey the film’s appetite for a suspenseful twist, or does it symbolise nihilism? One cannot tell.

A4 Vs Polaroid | Short Film Nominee

India is a country where the career route of a child is decided and set in stone pretty much from the time of their birth. If you’re not an IIT engineer, are you an engineer at all? Young boys and girls spend years and years of their lives and invest resources of all kinds into preparing for the entrance, often disregarding other essential things like their mental well-being and inter-personal relationships. At the end of it all, what if they don’t succeed? What are their returns from everything that they gave to their preparation? The short film attempts to raise all of these questions and tries to draw the viewer’s attention to the fact that qualifying in an entrance is not the ultimate goal; there are things far bigger which an aspiring student might be too close to the picture to figure out. However, the film falls short of finding an adequate example to drive its point home. Using cancer as an inherent part of the plot, it further reinforces the stigma around the disease. While the narrative around cancer is changing to remind people that it’s not a death sentence, but something that can be tackled with the right efforts and awareness, the short film undercuts the argument by the manner in which it handles it.
