The film is a high-paced rigmarole of chaotic events that follow one after another in rapid succession. The viewer has to await the very conclusion to truly understand how each character is linked. Fortunately for them, the engrossing narrative ensures that they stay with it till the very end. If on the one hand, a woman is plotting her stepfather's murder, her boyfriend, on the other, is secretly recording a video of their intimate moments. At the same time, a strange man has turned up at a seedy bar with a briefcase. When the waiter, working together with another patron, steals this bag, the most unexpectedly fateful set of events await the three of them. The plot, thus, becomes a culmination of all of these seemingly unrelated developments. The same elements further allow the viewer an entertaining experience, explaining the title of the film, Coincidence, in the process.

The films brings to life a very raw, visceral sensuality on screen that, though is always only spoken of in hushed whispers, is an undeniable part of human existence, for better or worse. It weaves the trajectories of several characters together to share its intentions. The viewer has to patiently watch and pay close attention to the overlaps so that all of them are able to form a cohesive whole. Amidst this world of sexual hungers, is also an existence marked by the efforts of struggling actors, of lovers' quarrels, homosexual undercurrents and sexual harassment allegations. The bottomline that the film draws is that each character has their own bit to chew, their own hurdles to overcome, albeit of vastly different nature. Consequently, as they move from one occurrence to another, a chaos of heightened energy ensues that can only conclude in a manner that is deeply shocking for both the characters and the audience.

Freudian Slip | Short Film Nominee

The film opens on a note that keeps the viewer unaware of the true intentions of the story. At first glance, it is easy to pass it off as drama. However, soon a sense of thrill, marked by a violent accident, potential for more violence, as well as unexpected comedic moments, all are attempted within the narrative. What begins as the story of a successful cryptocurrency professional, soon takes the most unexpected turn. 

The protagonist starts his day with a call from his mother, insisting that he get married soon. The mother has even finalized a meeting for him with a girl and her family, forcing him to cut short his work day and head back home. However, when he reaches it, a disturbing shock awaits him, and thus begins the unraveling of events. The end result aims to entertain the viewer while trying to keep them engaged. There is a union of sincerity and frivolity that is presented within the plot. Despite the promising production value, a rough edge or two in the department of visuals slips through; the performances remain the most notable aspect of the film.

Guest in Peace | Short Film Nominee

Agam (The Soul), as the title suggests, is a story of sorrow, grief, the manner it can affect one's mental well-being and a glimpse into what lies beyond that. A person accidentally runs over a drunkard as a result of perhaps a suicide attempt on the latter's part. Despite being absolved of guilt by the family of the victim, as well as the police, he finds himself unable to let go of the trauma of the accident. Days go by as he continues to distance himself from his friends, family and work. Irrespective of the concern or advice that is thrown his way, he makes little to no progress towards closure. However, sometimes important lessons in life can come from the most unexpected corners, suggests the film. Consequently, one unlikely afternoon as the protagonist babysits his friend's daughter, an important revelation awaits him. Will it truly remind him to find the soulfulness of life within him again?

Agam | Short Film Nominee

The film aims to remind the viewer of the fragility of life, and yet, despite all warnings, we refuse to take better care of it. The story is of a single night and two young men, primarily. They are awaiting a third friend to come and take them to a party. On the face of it, it is a fairly regular night of mundane, inane events, yet a dark twist awaits this narrative. The friends exchange banter, while the opening scene of the film, which seems to have no relation to these characters, looms close above the viewer's head all this while. Eventually, as the events tie up together, the film communicates what it had set out to do at the start. The structuring of the story is non-linear, and when it finally concludes, the present holds a jarring reality for the viewer.

Yaathrakidayil Oridavela | Short Film Nominee

Speculo begins with a lot of promise. There are atmospheric shots, and attention is paid to the sound
effects. In fact, for the first few minutes one is thrilled about the possibility that perhaps this would be a
sound-only film, there may not be any talk. What’s also interesting is that the film attempts to use all the
space of the haunted house in the beginning. But soon enough the narrative loses these interesting bits
in the bid to push the scary. If the film had explored these facets a little further, something more skilled may
have been accomplished.

Speculo | Short Film Nominee

A young man is haunted by the guilt of killing his friend. He is hounded by nightmares and it’s almost as
though he is living with the ghost of his dead friend. The torment is driving him insane. It almost seems
like he’s on a loop, playing the scenario in his head over and over again, so much so that one can’t tell
between what’s real and what’s not. But this loop is a crafted ploy of the narrative and the twist reveals
itself at the very end.

Guilt | Short Film Nominee

Since the film is called so, you are expecting an accident to happen from the go. The protagonist is
performing careless, devil-may-care, and rather juvenile moves like flaying his limbs, swinging from
the pole in a Mumbai local and skipping his steps, leading the viewer to anticipate a crash and fall any moment. However just before the viewer might find themselves getting tired of the antics, the film takes a different turn quite swiftly.
