Speculo begins with a lot of promise. There are atmospheric shots, and attention is paid to the sound
effects. In fact, for the first few minutes one is thrilled about the possibility that perhaps this would be a
sound-only film, there may not be any talk.
What’s also interesting is that the film attempts to use all the space of the haunted house in the beginning. But soon enough the narrative loses these interesting bits in the bid to push the scary. If the film had explored these facets a little further, something more skilled may have been accomplished.
