While gender is an extremely relevant concern in contemporary times, its significance in rural India reaches much more massive proportions. The film is a well-intentioned exploration of the same, taking us into the life of a young woman called Tani who is married to an alcoholic. Despite her efforts to find some form of love or comfort in her life, she is confined by limitations inherent to her gender identity, consequently finding herself a victim to domestic violence and physical abuse at the hands of her husband.

It is, however, after she gives birth to a girl that matters come to a head in the story. Without explicitly mentioning it, the narrative offers a comment on postpartum depression, the aftermath of sexual violence, trauma and the silence women are forced into following such incidents. Additionally, the plot presents a portrayal of female bonds and makes a zealous attempt to finally bust the myth of a strained relationship between a woman and her mother-in-law. Overall, the film is a sincere effort to further the dialogue on female oppression and patriarchal cruelties, and puts forth its ideas in an honest, thoughtful manner.
