The film takes its time introducing you to its intentions gradually. At the onset, 'Frince' comes across as a story about past, memories, denied joys of childhood and strained familial relationships. It is precisely these thematic concerns that it deals with, but in a manner very different from what the viewer may have been led to believe so far.

Based on a short story by Satyajit Ray called ‘Fritz’, the film takes us into a world as disconcerting as the parent text. As Jayant moves from one corner of Jodhpur to another, commenting on how different the city appears as compared to the images that he still carries of it from his childhood, several layers of the narrative begin to come into existence one by one.

When he explores the idea of a home that once was, one that he has come back to only to find it irrevocably altered, every object triggers a new memory, the experience of a past long forgotten. However, Jayanth has returned to his hometown after being plagued by strange dreams, visions of an unusual nature. It is in the revelation of the true meaning behind these that the film presents its final and most defining stroke to the viewer.
