The film opens on a note that does not give any inkling of the direction it is headed in. After being made aware by the title of the film, Daaka or robbery, when we see a man preparing to leave for somewhere, the first question to arise is whether he will be the robber or the robbed? <br><br> The audience is soon given the answer as a man breaks into a house in the darkness of the night, and thus begins his movement through it, silent as death. Employing shadows and snatches of light, the viewer is taken into the different corners, revealing all the various objects they hold within. However, just when the whole task has been completed, an unexpected development awaits our protagonist.

Daaka | Short Film Nominee

The short film is a story of love, loss and a promise of union in a corner of Punjab. It further deals with honour killing and the violence people give in to in the name of respect for their family name. <br><br> The film moves back and forth between the past and the present to share its story of a young couple who falls in love, but only to the deep anger of the girl's family. As they run away from their town to start life afresh, have they truly left their troubles behind? Also, how do three more characters, a man, his wife and their daughter, come to fit into all of this? The film raises these questions as well as provides their answers for the viewer.
