The film locates itself in a futuristic, dystopic society, where human existence is marked by tracking chips and an insidious cough that threatens to prove extremely detrimental to the very existence of mankind. This is further coupled with skilled visuals of illustrations that exhibit notable talent and ease with a pencil and paper. In terms of its story, Prophecy weaves a plot that leads the viewer by the hand to a specific location, only to later portray the folly of it all. As the fictive space of the film battles a severe health problem, also echoing our contemporary reality, the narrative simply puts forward the protagonist's experiences of attempting to survive the formidable circumstances. The same is communicated to the audience by visuals of only a pair of hands sketching images corresponding to the events that are unfolding. While the crisis rages on and on, would our protagonist finally achieve the safe haven he seeks, and perhaps, deserves?

Prophecy | Short Film of the Day

A man is on a call with a client, trying to disentangle some last minute complications the latter seemed to have given rise to. The sound of the conversation is coupled with the visuals of a pair of hands preparing an elaborate cup of tea, complete with all the spices. The calls continue, but soon somewhere in between doodles begin to push themselves into the scene, to be soon followed by ignored calls of loved ones, as well as more detailed paintings. The short film builds itself using all of these images one by one. And finally, it leaves the viewer with a question that is most important for the narrative- what do you do when after investing in a lot of effort in something, be it a cuppa or perhaps even a stressful, unsatisfying job, you realise it wasn't ever meant for you?

Not My Cup of Tea | 2020 Film Challenge

The film is premised on an imperative matter that is central to a writer’s life and livelihood: the subject
of copyright laws. The nature of all laws, but especially concerning intellectual theft, is such that there is
no awareness on the issue amongst individual writers. To a large extent, and especially during the early
stage of their careers, writers work independently. It is only when their work is acquired by a corporate
organisation or a body with some structure in place, that the issue of copyright crops up. At that stage,
it is handled by lawyers or professionals who are versed with that particular body of knowledge. To an
independent, ‘struggling’ writer, the matter is largely elusive and opaque. The film lays a brick towards
awareness on the issue, and draws the viewer's attention to it by showing the struggles of its protagonist.

The film is located in a dystopic world over half a century ahead of contemporary times where water has become a highly regulated commodity. As its use gets closely monitored, everyone is allowed only fixed amounts, and exceeding them requires especial permissions. The story opens with an ongoing interrogation about an indiscriminate use of water that has overshot the allowed levels. While using the imminent threat of severe water shortages, a situation already being experienced by several parts of the country as well as the world, the film also invokes a reality marked by corruption, selfish motives, thefts and double crossing. The Guilty attempts an efficient use of its limited sources to share an important story with the viewer, reminding them of a very real and pertinent environmental concern.
