Right at the opening of the film, Hanif, a contract killer, betrays his partner Tyagi, and pays a hefty price for it. His brutal murder at the hands of the protagonist also establishes betrayal as an important thematic concern of the plot. The rest of the narrative develops to include violence, a horrifying twist of events, and the suggestion of more than one life being lost in the tumult of it all. The protagonist is a police officer who is late for his anniversary celebration. However, calls from his wife only enrage him, revealing the anger simmering within the character. The portrayal of the police officer is achieved with skill which, in turn, strengthens the film. The screenplay is structured to invoke horror, thrill, and a sense of suspense within the viewer as it develops. Exhibiting a want of tighter control on its edit and sound mixing, the end result still presents an earnest effort to conjure a narrative marked by the darkest secrets, and a grotesque subversion of a celebratory occasion like an anniversary.

‘Major Saab’ endeavors to be a poignant narrative that deals with death and its many aspects that consume those who get left behind in its wake. It engages with loss and grief, using a poetic voice that is the viewer’s constant companion. The protagonist moves from one corner of his life to another, and all of these concerns and their portrayal come into existence. The film remembers an Indian Army Major through a philosophical rumination of his son. While death may seem certain, it is surely not a definitive end to a life. Those who leave us are forever alive within their loved ones, reiterates the film. The narration exhibits smoothness, followed closely by the visual attempts to bring it all to life.

Essentially, the entirety of the narrative is about the longing for a life that used to be before the pandemic hit us. Along with this, it also engages with that single moment of ease that finally allows you to feel liberated, even when the Covid-19 quarantine threatens to overpower our reality. The sentiment is explored by utilising poetry and the point of view of a single character. As his many experiences during this period of mental and physical isolation are portrayed, the whole plot is brought to life and presented to the viewer.

The short narrative is lighthearted and sweet as it brings to life a conversation between an aunt and her niece. The latter has recently finished college, and the former, like most adults, is concerned about the subsequent developments in her life - what will be her career choice? What kind of a wife will she make when she gets married? The entirety of the plot remains marked by the same humorous approach it had begun with, presenting to the viewer an exchange between two women, specifically marked by their generation gap and their own individual approach to technology and life.
