“But all the flyovers do not have the capacity to create HISTORY, isn’t it?”
This is a very compelling question to begin a story with. The Concrete Kalinga examines the implications
of the construction of the four-lane highway from Mangalore to Udipi. The highway’s perspective is
imagined as a reporter interviews it about its journey. The highway shares its thoughts on waiting
patiently for a whole decade to be built, and about its might.
But for a beginning as compelling as that, the film doesn’t ask any political questions that are implied
when notions of history and development in urban space are involved. On the level of thought, perhaps this strain could have been followed a little further.
