Dharavi is one of the most famous parts of Mumbai, and with good reason. An area barely over two square kilometres, it houses over 5000 businesses of different kinds within itself, suggests the film, acquiring the status of a parallel ecosystem. Why the activities of the people involved are specifically important, as the documentary aptly points out, is because Dharavi plays a massive role in recycling of the plastic that is generated as part of the tonnes of waste that Mumbai throws out every day. Not only does the film draw the viewer's attention to the scale of these operations and the manner in which the process is completed, it also talks of the working conditions of those involved who have no protective gear, along with their monthly income which comes to a measly amount. The film, using a crispness, brings to light a less talked about aspect of the locality which not only allows it to maintain its pace throughout, but also communicate its intentions lucidly.

The music video adopts an experimental approach in its visuals to highlight the importance of protecting and saving the environment from any further damage than has been already done to it as a result of mankind's endless greed. Plastic is choking the planet, our oceans and water bodies are overflowing with it, while marine life continues to suffer beneath the burden of it all. What the video does is use a popular Bollywood song to remind the viewer of the extent of the harm done to the environment. With its cast of only two dancers in a minimalist frame, the narrative makes a dedicated effort to remind its audience to wake up and pay heed to the planet's plea for help before its too late.

Things. Love. Pollution | Short Film Nominee

Humans are killing their environment bit by every day and therefore are headed towards a very dark future if our ways are not checked in time. This film imagines such a future where the air is unbreathable to the extent of afflicting almost everyone with a breathing problem. Similar fates exist for water and food as well, hardly leaving any clean means of sustenance possible for humans. Using the first and the last avatar of Vishnu as metaphors, the film aims to be a reminder of the current state of the planet and the reality we are all headed towards. As we continue to strew plastic in our oceans and release toxic chemicals in the air, all the while nurturing an unwavering indifference towards the health of the planet, the reality of the protagonist in the film could soon also become our way of life.

Matsya To Kalki | Short Film Nominee

The short film uses thrill and suspense to build its narrative - one which is moving towards raising awareness about the manner in which we treat the planet as well as our environment. The story is of a single night when three friends are having a lighthearted hangout. However, things soon go south in the most unexpected ways. The film is an honest, dedicated and sincere attempt to tell its story, but loses points in terms of execution and the technical skill it employs to tell it. However, it should be noted that the performance shows potential that can be further explored in later projects.

The Day of Salvation | Short Film Nominee

The film is an attempt to remind the viewer of the ill-effects of plastic usage on the environment. By invoking images of the damage it is wreaking on marine life, food chains and ecosystems, the narrative does its bit to remind the viewer of their duty to protect and conserve the planet.

Change | Short Film Nominee

The video opens with a scene in a park where a boy and a girl are sitting on a bench, munching on snacks. While the latter is wary of trash management, the former isn't. The story, educational in nature, raises awareness about the same. The film draws a contrast between a responsible individual and one who is indifferent to the needs of the environment. The girl is mindful of the waste and thus makes an attempt to dispose it adequately in a sustainable manner. This indeed is also the lesson she leaves the boy with. The conclusion offers suggestions on how to manage your waste. The film has a noble intention, but would have benefited more by avoiding using music from other well-known films, the french film Amelie, for instance.
