The short film by Vikram Bhatt is the story of four strangers who are forced to take shelter in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere due to a snow blizzard. It opens with a gory scene of an attack on a boy called Karthik. Before any sense can be made of what's going on, the narrative goes six hours back in time. It continues to oscillate between the past and the present, keeping the viewer on tenterhooks all along. Use of toys in shadows, perhaps reminiscent of the iconic slasher series Saw, is one of the many tools that help add to the eeriness of the setting. As attacks begin on them one by one, perhaps in a desperate attempt to rationalise it, they're immediately chalked down to being caused by a wild animal. Soon after, the question of the supernatural soon enters the narrative. However, how far are they from the truth, and more importantly, is any escape possible even if they manage to figure it out?

What happens when a ghost gets stuck inside a house during the lockdown with its housemates? 
Bhoot aur Bhavishya is a pun on time, and the history of a ghost, who feels indignant and cheated that
his me-time is now snatched away as the humans inhabiting the house get confined indoors. He mourns how
back in the day, in the pre-lockdown era, he would have the whole house to himself to do whatever he
pleased after the humans went about their business. This ghost is a charming personality in a white
kurta, black shades, a black hat, and salt and pepper hair, and speaks the millennial-lingo. He is a mime, a stand-up comic, a social commentator, and an indignant housemate, all in one. 
The writing is clever, and witty with hot-takes. The actor is committed and fun to watch! The film will
keep you in splits.

Washroom Vibes is pretty much one’s worst nightmare come true when watching a horror film: a ghost
in the house. A boy is watching a horror flick on his phone. There are strange sounds around him but
since he is tuned in, one is led to believe that it is noise emanating from the phone. He is
engrossed on his phone which takes it along with him to the washroom. The nightmare follows and big,
bloody things occur rapidly. 
A reservation against the film that the viewer might have is that it surrenders too quickly, with no twists or turns, while the material could have
been explored further.

Washroom Vibes | Short Film Nominee

The film brings in an element of the supernatural to share the story of a man alone in a house where unusual events soon begin to unfold. A writer who has been forced to move into a new apartment following trouble with his previous landlord, is met with clandestine pleas for help one night while he sits before his laptop screen to work on a writing assignment. As shadows and reflections take a life of their own in the narrative, the protagonist is perhaps headed towards a fate far more disturbing than both he and the viewer might have realised at the first instance. Is any escape possible from the disturbing situation he has landed himself in, or would it set in motion another set of inexorable events? The story raises the question, leaving it to be answered by the viewer themselves.

The Night Hag | Short Film Nominee

The story is of a pit-stop that a group of friends make while on a trip. When they stop on their way for a short break, they find themselves in an abandoned house with strange noises and doors that refuse to open once shut. The attempt is to build tension using an element of uncertainty about the fate of the characters. It eventually boils down to a chess match between the two of them. While victory in the match might finally be achieved, does it also mean a safe escape for all members of the group from the house?

Last Move | Short Film Nominee

Back from school, a boy wants to play cricket with his friend. His friend agrees to play on the condition that the boy first bring him his ball from the terrace. The boy readily agrees, but little does he know that the terrace is haunted. Paranormal occurrences begin to happen in his life after that visit. As things continue to worsen progressively, what will be the fate of our young protagonist? And more importantly, will the film truly be able cause the chills it intends with its story of supernatural events and cursed dolls?

Terrace | Short Film Nominee

Within a few seconds of the film, it is indicated that something untowardly is going to occur in the flat
that a man has recently moved to; but it is not until the middle of the film that the paranormal
occurrences begin to unfold. In a short span of a few days, the sinister entity has the tenant completely immobilised and held
hostage. However, the fear that grips the character in the film could have been translated better for the viewer if the menace was more pronounced visually.

Flat 704 | Short Film Nominee

Though the film situates itself in the horror genre, it is perhaps better suited for the horror-comedy category (at least for
the first half of the film). This makes it more interesting for it is one of the lesser explored ones. The film
also takes a turn towards the eccentric because it is the husband, the man of the house, who starts
seeing the ghost, not the wife. In fact, he is ridiculed by her on account of his fragile masculinity that leaves him
with no option, but to shower with an open door, while she lounges, fiddling on her mobile phone.
It is the wife who consoles her husband who, we are told, has nightmares after watching a horror film. 
There are jump scares, and loops, and attempts at leaving the viewer with ambiguity, but the film
doesn’t fully realise that potential.
