Fit India is the story of twenty-five-year-old Ganika who is overweight, and faces constant body shaming.
She suffers repeated rejections by suitors who come to examine her, as is customary in an arranged
marriage set-up in India. Ganika strives to balance her own self-esteem and aspirations with the social
expectations. 
On the surface level, the film is light-comedy that imbibes millennial jargon and behaviours to become
relatable and consumable. The lead actor playing Ganika, as well as the rest of the cast, live up to
what’s expected of their performance. However, it also seeks to straddle its own aspirations of
delivering something new and unique, and an attempt to employ mainstream tropes in order to increase its appeal for a larger section of the audience. The film offers a simple engagement with issues of body shaming and how it gets tied with the patriarchal gaze of Indian society, while perhaps also striving for introspection of their own thoughts and perspectives on the part of the viewer.

The film opens with a shot of vast outdoors, along with a solitary figure who sits by himself amidst it all. The despair in his body language is soon engaged with for the viewer's benefit. After a romantic partner ended things with him, he is now left with a broken heart. However, his friends and peers provide little comfort or support to him while he is hurting and drowning in hopelessness. Instead, they mock him for his weight, isolating him further. It is thus that the film offers a comment on peer pressure, fat shaming and society's distorted body standards. However, when one is subjected to cruel behavior in this manner, can it ever end well?

The story engages with a man's struggle with his body image. Things get exacerbated during the lockdown when he is left only by himself and his thoughts. The same friends, who had once been a source of encouragement and support in his journey, now acquire the role of taunting voices. As the pandemic becomes more serious, health facilities like gyms are shut down, while his domestic help is also not available to prepare his meals. Once the protagonist has hit his lowest, the narrative suggests he is moving towards a very dark path. Would it truly turn out to be what you have been led to believe so far?
