It’s always nice to see a filmmaker integrate another form into a film. It takes the investment with the
piece to another level. Here, Spy integrates the comic book aesthetic into a sci-fi genre. Sure, it may
not be a radical idea, still it’s nice to see a filmmaker attempting something out of the ordinary. 
While it is recognised how the film was able to touch upon some stylistic insertions with a limited
budget, especially the decision to cast a competent female spy, yet, style is no substitute for a story. A
film is storytelling on screen, and this fundamental task cannot be sidelined. The plot ends up being a
climax of a big film like it says in its description, and comes short at standing as a whole on its own.

Using mystery as its lens, the film puts forward a potentially engaging narrative for the viewer. It makes use of voiceovers generously and does not employ a single scene consisting of dialogues between the characters. The plot develops to raise topics of gender and sexuality and a non-cis person’s struggle to fit in a predominantly heteronormative society. Overall, it’s the visual performances in the film that fare better than the VOs. Additionally, just when the suspense in the narrative begins to draw in the viewer towards a seemingly satisfying end, they are instead met with an abrupt conclusion.

An odd yet skilled detective, Kasiram, takes under his wing, a budding student of psychology, Maya, for a short internship period. Working under the guidance of Kasiram, Maya brings to attention a gruesome set of crimes - the Guindy Murders. They work on the case relentlessly, and with their unconventional thinking and wit, are able to find crucial information about the latest victim’s identity. 
Satisfied with their achievements, Maya and Kasiram loosen up and share personal stories with one another. However, the smooth arrangement quickly breaks when it is revealed that Maya has been lying about her true identity. Kasiram, till date, treasures the case as one of his most unforgettable, twisted ones.
