Right at the start of 2020, Molshri moves to Mumbai from Jaipur. The adventure that she has commenced upon with her best friend, however, is soon gravely interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The film maps a story of two years between January 2020 to December 2021 that the protagonist predominantly spends in isolation, battling mental health struggles, work pressures, a desperate desire for physical touch, ignored friendships, anxieties around parents’ health, and finally, a tragedy that turns her life upside down. Much of the story is told by adopting the vertical frame of a phone screen, presenting its developments by way of social media posts, video calls, and text messages.
Amidst it all, more layers are added not only in the form of the very practical concerns of everyday life but also in the form of the poetry that is entwined with the film, be it in the form of Rahat Indori’s couplets or the spoken poetry that Molshri raps into a camera. During the entirety of the pandemic, screens became our only companions, and the screenplay and storytelling of the film endeavor to capture the same reality for the viewer in its own individual, authentic voice.
