Niruktha

Niruktha is a story about two researchers, Niruktha and Chhaya, who are writing a challenging case - a study against a powerful medicine corporation, while being chased by goons hired by the same company. In her personal life, Niruktha rejects the advances of a friend (Vishak) because she is in love with another. Vishakh can’t take it well, and harbours a tendency to harm her. In the middle of these threats from her personal and professional life, she is also diagnosed with a mental disorder which makes her hallucinate that someone is attacking her. According to the doctor, it is Niruktha’s own reflection that triggers these delusions – an aspect that was clever and worth exploring, but isn’t in the film.

The narrative ropes in several emotions in an attempt to offer an engaging plot. However, the series of events and the manner they come to unfold in raise a significant question - is it fair to a call a film a thriller when the dominant mode throughout is melodrama?
