The film invokes pertinent questions about identity, self and the philosophy of existence, scoring most points for its writing. It opens with an author expressing his views on the same and then progresses to reveal to us his life. This premise is significant for it would later be used to portray the reason behind his decision-making and how he attempts to solve another family member's problem. In the process, the film also manages to raise relevant points about what is considered acceptable in society and the extent of effects loneliness can have on a person.

Main Shoonya Hoon exhibits a depth of thought that elevates the narrative, and shows how a socially acceptable solution is reached to an old man's desire to get married again.

It also talks about finding one's purpose of existence, reminding the viewer that while companionship is important, one cannot forget that it will indeed end one day - an inevitable truth of life. It would be interesting to see, though, more projects by the team in the future which perhaps break away from the normative, mainstream structures of socially acceptable practices.
