Laadki: A Story to Remember

Laadki, a film on women empowerment, explores the grievous underbelly of Indian society, and how, more often than not, it is deeply entangled with the ones holding the reins of the country. It follows Avadh, the brother of a recently deceased victim of sexual assault, on his quest for justice. He, along with the help of his childhood friend, set out in search for their missing friend, Maansi. The investigation leads them to a familiar character from the past, an illegal sex racket and other deplorable truths.

Though well intentioned, the film shies away from exploring the topic of women safety in its depth. While a more nuanced approach would have been fruitful, the final result of the film exhibits a desire to further conversation on a relevant topic, attempting to remind women of their own inherent strength as an individual.
