Just Another Straight Talk

This short film satirizes modern day mainstream journalism as a gimmick depending on propaganda and artifice to spread news that cannot always be relied on for the truth. It follows the conversation of a popular television show host with a novelist and psychotherapist who is trying to promote his book. However, as the exchange progresses, both sides try to enforce their hidden agenda onto the other, failing which they turn aggressive and impolite.
Though well-intentioned, the final plot could have benefited from a more nuanced approach. On the whole, it does indeed strive to cover topics of toxic masculinity, sexism, fake news and deceit of media leaders. Since both characters are played by the same actor, there is also the attempt to maybe suggest that journalists and media advertisers have simply become two sides of the same coin.
