There are big ships, and there are small boats on the same river. There are historical monuments, and
there is a stray dog on the same road. This is how Abhishek Das’s film welcomes you. The camera
follows a young man on his morning jog. He is wearing a mask. There are boys playing football in a field,
they are all wearing masks. A man goes on to meet his friends, he puts another, a bigger mask over his
first one. It becomes fairly easy to gauge where the film is headed.
The masks symbolise the hypocrisy in
society and its rejection of individual identity. A man who wakes up without a mask, is chased down the
street by a gang of masked men who want to put an identical mass on his face. Once they have done
that, they accept him as their own. Is the gesture meant to imply an initiation or completion of the
socialisation process – is something that could have been explored. The film has a promising beginning,
we wish that that it had developed more deeply on that visual material.
