Host makes no qualms about the massacre it's about to unleash. The film opens with the aftermath
of a crime-scene where blood marks are being wiped off the floor. This is a bold moral, or rather amoral,
statement to make. It’s already told to us that a murder has been committed, which is now being
covered up. The viewer is invited into an already degenerate universe. The setting and the atmosphere of
the film are ominous from the start.
Usually, in a psychological crime thriller a viewer is given a chance to participate in the universe of the
film by picking a side, or getting to see the story of the good guy versus the bad guy. The narrative, however,
doesn’t even leave you with breathing space. It’s an absolutely closed-up, dark territory which only gets
darker and more depraved by the minute.
