Horpal

By Aniket Arjun Kulthe with 6.3

drama · Short Films · marathi

The film is a commentary on the deeply entrenched roots of poverty in India. The story is of a small village in Maharashtra where daily wage labourers carry out the constant struggle to survive.

By using the example of one family, the film draws attention to how young children, truly inclined to study, have to drop out of school to help their families in manual labour. The narrative tells the story of a boy called Guna, a sincere student, but one who has to forgo his education due to financial compulsions. With a closing shot of Guna following in his father's footsteps of being a manual labourer, the film tries to give incisive insights on Indian poverty and how a basic need like education is an unattainable privilege for so many in the country.
