Right from the very beginning, the shadowy visuals of the film establish the seedy reality it is going to locate itself in. The viewer is introduced to violence, brutal murders, betrayals and a constant tussle between a gangster and a police officer, both determined to outsmart the other. Within this, however, there is another story which is slowly coming into its own.

The police officer has waited several years to catch his nemesis, the same gangster who is about to leave the country for good within a few hours, making only a very short duration available for the former to complete his mission. The stakes are high and matters are about to come to a head. It is at this juncture that the film ropes in an important development about a friendship it had only teased earlier at the starting of the story.

Hands of Time bases itself on a short story by O. Henry, revealing whose name would be giving away a crucial piece of the plot. For the patient viewer, it would be made amply clear as to which parent text has served as an integral part of the film, while also allowing the audience all along to come on this uncertain, unexpected journey of its characters.
