The film is quiet in its tone and the atmosphere it conjures. Devoid of any dialogue, marked only by simple visuals of a non-linear kind, it invokes a conversation around the ideas of self and its innate nature, one that might sometimes include breaking away from the normative, societal structures of gender. This, in turn, raises questions about being cisgender, transgender, or perhaps conforming to neither.
A young boy, with bruises of violent assault on his face, sits before a mirror, broken and crestfallen. However, armed with the makeup of his choice, can there be much that would keep him from finding his smile, as well as hope, again? The film, thus, becomes an encouraging and endearing message for people who find themselves on different parts of the gender and sexuality spectrum, reminding them to not let obstacles daunt them from being who they truly believe they are.
