The short film attempts a narrative of thrill, suspense, horror and mystery by using seemingly self-shot visuals of all characters from their respective rooms or houses, and an intriguing group chat that unfolds on their screens. It begins when several people find themselves added on a group chat they are unable to exit. The moderator of the conversation is a person who withholds their identity. The plot also puts forth suggestions of their preoccupation with the seven sins as well as ideas of retribution. The film is a sincere effort to weave a story marked by violence, regret and a twisted sense of justice. By taking the viewer into the lives of the different characters, Hello, World, presents their different kinds of regrets and the enormous extent of their power over each one of them. The narrative, however, would have benefitted from a crispness of length and a pace which it seems to lose by the second half and the conclusion.

The visual space of the film is a terrace where a man reads a letter. This is further ascertained for the viewer by the presence of a woman's voiceover. As a chirpy voice shares the story, its content in direct contrast with her mirth, a plot marked by loss and tragedy is conjured on screen. Illness, deep affection, longing and bereavement all come to constitute it. The film is tied together simply by this narration and the complementary visuals, in an attempt to share an experience of unrequited love with the audience. At the same time, it also carries within itself a sense of hope and a suggestion of the indomitable nature of love.

The Letter | Short Film Nominee

Locating itself in the mid-twentieth century, the short film takes us into the life of a theatre actor who finds it increasingly difficult to find work. With the rise of cinema, and a consequent fall in the popularity of theatre, he is desperate to earn any money that will come his way. As a result, when an unexpected project lands at his doorstep, it seems like a harbinger of good news, until the actor makes his way to the film set. Adapting its narrative from Satyajit Ray's short story Patol Babu, Film Star, along with the format of a silent film, complete with a playful background score and title cards, the film presents its story to you in a lighthearted manner.
