The film starts off with humor, portraying an overlap between two unlikely characters - a man, Arjun, and an incompetent hacker whom he's meeting to get information on his wife. As the conversation turns out to be of little help, Arjun eventually moves on to a different circumstance, one where he discusses his doubts and uncertainty with his twin sister. <br><Br> The tone of the film soon comes to be defined by thrill, violence and suspense as the protagonist unearths a terrible secret about his wife. He now finds himself in the grips of a dilemma, completely unsure of the way ahead. The short film delineates all of this for the viewer, endeavoring to weave an engaging story, as well as leaving the door open for subsequent parts.

The short narrative is well-intentioned and wants to make a comment about unity and secularism. Ahead of Independence Day, a radio show discusses the many issues plaguing the country in the name of communal discord. <br><br> 

Alongside this is a scene around a bonfire where four soldiers, each of a different faith, sit alongside each other, ready to fight together in the name of protecting the nation. It is through the contrast of these two scenarios that Idukkan Kalai (The Tribulation) hopes to share its message with the viewer, and echo its message of futility of discrimination as well as of the importance of peace and harmony.

Borrowing from the silent films of the past, the short film shares its story which is about aliens, friends casually spending time on a rooftop and the absolute importance of wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic. Trying to stay true to its genre, the story is completely devoid of any dialogues and uses a monochromatic palette to share its message in a comedic manner.
