The scene is of a cafe when the story opens where different sets of people are all engrossed in their own respective business. While a trio struggles to come up with an original song, the cafe owner and one of his employees continue their banter. Amidst it all arrives a busy lawyer, looking for his regular cup of tea and a samosa. However, confusion unfolds when the last samosa is found to be already claimed by a woman who sits right behind him. 

The film opens at a lighthearted note, marked by humor and sweet silliness. However, it soon takes a dramatic, sentimental turn which involves the threat of familial loss and tragedy for a woman. It is in tying of these varying emotions together that the story is completed and presented to the viewer.

Ek Samosa Do Chai | Short Film Nominee

The short film is a story of a couple during the Covid-19 lockdown when they are unable to travel and are forced to live in the same house despite all desires of doing otherwise. Their relationship is further portrayed for the viewer by way of small arguments and disagreements between them. 

 From household chores to the content they watch on television, the two do not see each other eye to eye on any issue. As they look for the positive aspects of the end of their relationship, the film presents its story to the audience - one that wants to assert the idea of new beginnings, rather than a saddening end of something. 

 Hope and positivity therefore become the primary emotions the final result wants to leave the viewer with, reminding them by way of its title that no matter how tough things might seem, there is always a choice regarding the manner in which they can be tackled.

Chayan | Short Film Nominee

Dhuna is a man in his twenties who aspires to be a musician. However, due to lack of funds, he is unable to turn his passion and efforts into a professional pursuit. This is further tied with complex familial dynamics that are defined by an over-achiever sister, as well as an unhappy father. Consequently, when he is put in touch with a drug trader, albeit hesitant at first, he finds himself sinking into the quicksands of crime, and deceit. Its allure is most definitely marked by the constant flow of cash. The final result of 'Black, White and Grey' shows vision and the desire to share its story, but loses some points when it comes to the execution of its various components. Once wrinkled out, it would be interesting to see more such endeavors in storytelling by the team.
