The story is of a single encounter between an Indian Army personnel and a Kashmiri militant. Through their conversation, ideas of freedom, revenge and the State are invoked. <br><br> However, despite all its attempts, the film remains threadbare and does not add significantly to the dialogue around the same topic. As both characters put forth the motivations behind their actions, the film exhibits a want of technical strengths, primarily in the sound and dubbing department. Better control of the light would have also helped. Yet, despite its weaknesses, Haalaat remains a brave attempt that hopes to leave the viewer with positive and constructive food for thought.
