Any piece of art that tells you to follow your dreams deserves full points, wouldn't you agree? Dreams come from all quaters of life, big and small, and Boundary portrays precisely that. Celebrating the spirit of Mumbai to never give up and always strive to be better, the short film delineates how the city harbours endless dreams. (And no, not all of them are about Bollywood.) There will always be practical concerns, fears of the future and doubts and uncertainty that will stop you from pursuing what you truly want, but attempting to overcome them gives meaning to life, and that is the message this short film will leave you with.

Boundary | Short Film Nominee

The short film is a sweet romance, mapping the several stages of a relationship, but one that plays out on smartphone and computer screens. The story is located in our locked down reality which ensured we could not meet our loved ones for long periods of time. <br><br> As two lovers get confined to their homes, they are unable to see each other in person. Consequently, this reduces their relationship to the status of a long distance situation, despite living in the same neighborhood. They are presented with unforeseen challenges, similar to many couples who found themselves face-to-face with a world they were completely unprepared for. While the lockdown continues to get extended, with little to no hope visible of an imminent end, the burden of it all begins to take a toll on their relationship. What will then be the fate of the two characters, clearly in love with each other, but confronted by obstacles and situations much bigger than them?

The film has an urgent appeal as its core intention - one of understanding different perspectives, and the extent of harm their distortion can bring about. It begins with two friends sitting on a beach, watching dogs fight among themselves. However, the lighthearted, cheery atmosphere soon takes a dark turn as conflict wriggles its way between the friends as well. <br><Br> The film wants to exercise and stretch its limbs in the space of metaphors to talk about the rigidity of fixed perspectives that threaten the peace and harmony of the country in the name of religion. It demands of the viewer to not force everything within the monolithic identity of black and white, and allow the subtleties of greys a chance as well in a nation that has been ravaged by intense communal violence, especially in the recent past.
