‘Closet’ raises awareness about the very serious issue of child sexual abuse. When a little girl is put at the mercy of a predatory uncle who is otherwise very liked and loved in the family, her only refuge lies in a dark, confining cupboard, providing the film its title. Robbed of the vocabulary to articulate the abuse, she is left with nowhere to turn to, and the narrative is an attempt to explore the same helplessness.

Along with this, it also serves as a reminder for the adults, those in a position to protect children, that a vast majority of instances of child sexual abuse are caused by family members and friends, essentially people who already know the child. In terms of the narrative, the editing of the film comes across as a marked characteristic.
