A solitary bird inside a cage becomes the pivotal metaphor of the narrative which is essentially a story of isolation and a sense of being trapped. A little girl, by a cruel twist of fate, finds herself at the mercy of her stepmother who finds the child no more than a mere nuisance in her life. All the anxieties and tension inherent to the plot find an expression in the background score that further makes up for the complete absence of dialogues in the film.
The unkindness that is meted out to the girl in a family of a negligent father and a callous stepmother leads her to eventually take a significant decision about her own caged pet, a bird. However, while the bird might be allowed a fate of freedom, can the same be said about our little protagonist as well?
