The short film is an endeavour to raise a very pertinent issue in contemporary India - the increasingly high rate of unemployment. The story is told from the point of view of a young engineer, freshly out of college and filled with hopes and aspirations about his future. However, as the harsh reality about the lack of jobs sinks in, he finds himself succumbing to the emotional pressure of taking his life. By showing the plight of a helpless young professional, the film further tries to be a comment on mental health and the toll an uncertain career can take on it. While jobs remain at an all-time low, who is to be blamed - the education system, societal or professional expectations, or simply the apathy of people to help each other?

What happens when a dedicated, hard-working employee finds himself against the wall in his workplace? All he hopes for is getting a week off from work for a holiday in Goa. However, things soon take a heated turn when he finds his senior dissing him over a phone call, immediately after having manipulated him into not asking for leave. What the film potentially aspires to do is convey the frustration and helplessness of an honest employee who finds himself virtually powerless in the face of red-tapism and hierarchy of his workplace. As he prepares to finally hold his senior accountable, will he be able to secure his leave?

Chhuttee | Short Film Nominee

The short film opens on the day of Gandhi Jayanti presumably. As two boys discuss their plan for the night, they are soon joined by an interesting companion. It turns out they have been visited by the Mahatma himself. The conversation flows between them touching and engaging with several topics - from religion to politics, to partition to non-violence. The film further attempts to invoke a sense of patriotism in the viewer, using history and the past developments as tools to communicate its message. It finally concludes with the reminder to strive to be the change you want to see in the world.

Agar Gandhiji Zinda Hotey | Short Film Nominee

The opening shot of the film is of a traffic policeman standing in the middle of a busy road, directing traffic in the right direction. This sets the premise of the rest of the narrative - one weaved as an attempt to honour the Indian police force, primarily that of the state of Gujarat. As a dejected looking policeman makes his way to a park, he finds himself to be an unwelcome presence to those around him. This is soon followed by a phone call which cancels his leave for the day of Diwali. Using his disgruntled mood after receiving this news, the film further tries to draw attention to the tribulations of the police force, asking the audience to honour their hard work and efforts.
