Employing skilful visuals, both stunning and horrifying in equal measure, the short film invokes a concern extremely relevant in contemporary times. It draws the viewer's attention to the callous indifference with which humans have abused the River Yamuna, resulting in polluting it to alarming levels. The approach the narrative adopts to present this concern forth is comprised of stills and photographs, mapped against a poetic narration, revealing the state of the river. There is a reiteration of not allowing yourself to get blinded by the ideals of development and progress and check our activities at an individual level before its too late for our environmental resources. The film, thus, becomes a sincere plea for humans to protect the planet before we destroy our very source of life and existence.

It takes the viewer to the banks of the river and shows hard-hitting images of the manner in which the river was abused and taken for granted by all of us as a society. The film also brings in some significant voices who express their concerns about the water body's health. Despite its visual strength, however, the narrative could have benefited from a more organic pace, that would have allowed it coherence in its development. Irrespective of this, the film leaves the door open for more such projects by the team.

Yamuna: Current State of the River | Short Film Nominee

The short documentary film employs the annual fair in Pushkar, Rajasthan, to make a case for inherited culture and heritage. It takes the viewer into the several facets of this colourful fete marked by shopping, food and an undeniable and unshakable sense of community. As villagers get together at this event, which receives over two hundred thousand visitors every year, both locally and from overseas, the same proposition is further asserted. Along with the colours and all kinds of activities and handicrafts that make their presence felt at the fair, which initially began solely as a camel trading event, Pushkar also has a holy significance. It is the sight of the Brahma Temple, one where scores of people make pilgrimages every year. The film is an intermingling of all of these elements, presented forth for the viewer to engage with.
