Arai (A Room) presents to you a strange situation without any explanation or warning. A man has been kept confined to a room by an unknown captor and is never allowed to step out of it. It is never made clear whether this is a social experiment, a sociopath's whim or a random combination of other elements that have led to the current circumstance of the protagonist. He leads the viewer by the hand into his life so far, in the process attempting to raise questions about existence, and the idea of freedom, confinement and captivity.
In the same manner in which it had begun, the narrative offers another unexplained situation in which the captor disappears, leaving the man inside the room alone and without food for two days. What lies post these two days then becomes the core message of the film for the viewer.
