There are few films which are able to weave a voiceover delicately into the drama on screen, and A Song
From The Ceiling is one of those. The film is like a beautiful, soft, unintrusive song from the ceiling of
your bedroom; a space so intimate to your being. A young boy is contemplating killing himself, and he is
“saved by the Universe”. A delightful montage ensues which reminds him of the most wonderful,
precious moments of his life. It reminds him of the bonds of friendship he possesses, about all that he
has and all that he risks to lose.
The footage is raw, which makes its so much more endearing, not only as a contrast with the dark
present he currently inhabits, but also because that is the nature of memories. Our moments are not
sanitised or serialised. It is the music that uplifts the film.
