The documentary wants to offer a glimpse into the water crisis that affects the Kalikapur slum area in Kolkata. At the same time, there is also a conversation around a water treatment plant that works towards addressing this shortage. The primary concern here, highlights the narrative, is the overuse of water leading to scarcity. This, in turn, leads to shortage of drinking water, the most acute problem of them all, along with linked problems of water shortage.

'A Drop of Life' brings in expert voices to talk about the very disconcerting reality of the issue in urban slums, the challenges that obstruct mitigation of the said crisis, as well as relentless efforts in the form of bio toilets and water ATMs. The narrative further discusses the role of contaminants, from microorganisms and carcinogens to fluoride and arsenic, in aggravating the problem. With all of its various elements, the final result thus comes across as an attempt to raise awareness about a very pertinent and urgent issue.
